January 17 - Sarasota  Our speaker for the FSRA Annual Meeting and Luncheon was Ambassador Eric Rubin, newly elected President of AFSA. He spoke about The State of the Foreign Service. Paula Jakub, CEO of AFSPA, updated our members on Changes in the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program. 


2019
November 8 - Coconut Grove   Harold R. Wanless, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Geography and Regional Studies at University of Miami, Coral Gables gave an excellent overview of  Our Coming Inundation.

September 20 - Safety Harbor   Maya Burke, Science Policy Coordinator for Tampa Bay Estuary Program (TBEPpresented a comprehensive view of Sea Change: Climate, Collaboration, and Tampa Bay

May 10 - Palm Coast   J. Philip Craiger, Ph.D., CISSP, Associate Professor of Cybersecurity - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University provided very timely information about  Cybersecurity: Nation State Threat Actors (China, Iran) and Threats to Business.

March 8 - Tallahassee  Dr. Carol S. Weissert, Director of the LeRoy Collins Institute, LeRoy Collins Eminent Scholar, Professor of Political Science at Florida State University provided valuable insights into Florida Politics. 

January 11 - Sarasota   Raymond C. Offenheiser, former President of OXFAM/USA, Director and Keough School Distinguished Professor of Practice at Notre Dame University presented a thorough overview of The role of foreign assistance as a tool of US foreign policy: How current efforts at aid reform may enhance or impede its effectiveness, and the impact of proposed funding cuts.


2018
November 16 - Punta Gorda   Brendan Goff, Assistant Professor of History at New College of Florida  U.S. Foreign Policy and the State of International Relations under Recent U.S. Presidents.

September 22 - Melbourne   Dr. Tom Marcinkowski, Professor and Program Chair of Education at FL Institute of Technology spoke eloquently about Trends in Public Opinion on the Environment in the US and Implications for National Policies and Programs

May 11 - Bonita Springs  Dr. Roger Green, Chair & Associate Professor, Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Florida Gulf Coast University  gave a comprehensive overview of Conservative Populism in the U.S. and its Implications for Foreign Policy and International Relations.

January 12  Orlando   Ambassador (ret) Harriet L. Elam-Thomas provided an overview of Role of Art in Diplomacy and her 2017 memoire: Diversifying Diplomacy, My Journey from Roxbury to Dakar.  


2017
November 16 - Panama City Beach  The November event was organized around a tour of the Naval Surface Warfare Center - the national center of expertise for all military diving. It is the only such facility of its kind in the U.S.

May 12 - The Villages   Bryan Lifsey spoke about Protecting Yourself from Scams, and Cyber Security. His discussion centered on the Attorney General's Seniors vs. Crime Project and senior involvement in the Senior Sleuths Program. 

March 31 - Howey-in-the-Hills  Professor Gary R. Mormino, Frank E. Duckwall Professor Emeritus in Florida history at University of South Florida St. Petersburg gave a presentation on Florida’s Early Days. Professor Mormino also holds the position of Scholar in Residence at the Florida Humanities Council.

January 13 - Bradenton  Dr. Darrell Slider, Professor in the School of Inter-disciplinary Global Studies at USF (Tampa) addressed FSRA members and guests on A New Cold War? Or Could it be Worse?: The current state of US-Russian relations and the challenges presented by Putin's behavior over the past two years.


2016
September 9 - St. Petersburg  Ambassador (ret) Nancy J. Powell, served as Ambassador to Uganda, Ghana, Pakistan, Nepal and India, and served as the Director General of the Foreign Service and expounded upon South Asian Policies and Issues at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. 

May 13 - Pompano Beach   Dr. Sharmila Vishwasrao, Associate Professor of Economics at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton spoke about the U.S. Free Trade Pacts from NAFTA to the TTP: Boon or Bane? at the Lighthouse Point Yacht and Racquet Club. 

March 11 - Lakeland   Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Affairs, discussed African Affairs and the Operations of the Africa Bureau, devoting special attention to the President's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). 

January 15 – Sarasota   Ambassador (ret) John A. Cloud, Professor in the National Security Affairs Department of the U.S. Naval War College spoke about The Economic/Political State of Affairs in Ukraine (and their implication on its surrounding countries and the European Union). 


2015
November 13 - Ybor City (Tampa)  Jeffrey W. Mazur, Deputy Foreign Policy Advisor (POLAD), US Central Command discussed CENTCOM’s Activities and How They Evolved.

September 19 – Melbourne   Ms. Josephine (Josie) Burnett, Director of Exploration Research and Technology Programs, Kennedy Space Center, responsible for Strategic Leadership in coordination with international partners and private contractors on space issues provided a Tour of the Kennedy Space Center to our members.

May 15 - Palm Coast    Dr. Parvez Ahmed, Professor of Finance at the University of North Florida, member of the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission, provided an insightful overview of  Terror in the Name of Islam – Unholy War not Jihad

March 20 – Gainesville    Retired Foreign Service Officer John Caulfieldformer Chief of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, Cuba from 2011-2014, among many other postings presented a concise review of Cuban-American Relations during the past half century. 

January 17 – Sarasota   Tony D’Souza, former Peace Corps Volunteer, Africa (two tours) spoke with firsthand knowledge about The Challenges of Living In and Educating/Training the Local Population of Cote d'Ivoire About How to Avoid HIV while it was devastating the the country.
